Bio
Matt is a full-time professional photographer, located in the Capital District of Upstate, NY. While best known for his creative wedding work, Matt & his team also shoot a variety of other projects such as infant/maternity sessions, family portraits as well as corporate & commercial work. While Matt takes great pride in providing high quality work & service, what sets him apart from many are his passion, outgoing nature & overall charismatic nature.
History
Born on a military base in Germany, Matt grew up a semi – “military brat,” which afforded him the ability to become a young world traveler. By the age of 20, Matt had visited a total of 17 countries between Europe and Asia, and had lived in Germany, Italy, Japan, and England in addition to the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Matt moved to New York State in 1997, and has resided in the Capital Region since. These travel experiences early on, are what ultimately sparked Matt’s first passion in photography, and would later become a fulltime business and dream come true. After attending 3 high schools in three different countries, Matt attended the University of Maryland, and holds extensive experience in business, marketing and computer technology, which is often used to offer cutting edge options & services for his clients. Matt considers himself to be self taught, however continues to stay sharp with his skills by attending photography & business seminars from some of the leading experts & photo journalists in the industry. Matt always seeks to improve his knowledge and ability in the arts, and is a proud member of both, the WPPI & PPA national professional photographer associations as well as the Better Business Bureau of the State of New York.
Experience
Matt holds over 16 years experience, with both film and digital equipment. Being a stickler for quality, Matt shoots only with top of the line Canon digital equipment such as the 1Ds Mark III, 1D Mark IV, and 5DII professional cameras. Matt also shoos with a wide variety of high end lenses that allow him to shoot in extremely low light in a very non-obtrusive way. Despite the equipment being used, Matt’s work, style, creativity and overall reputation has made him one of the top and most sought after photographers in Upstate NY & the surrounding areas.
Matt and his team shoot roughly 40-50 weddings per year, along with various other commercial projects, events, model/actor head shots, family portraits, etc. While Matt often books events a year or more in advance, he is excited to meet & build new client relationships each week. Style
While many of today’s wedding photographers wish to be known or referred to as “photojournalists,” Matt refers to himself more as a “creative journalist.” While photo-journalistic & candid style images are a majority of Matt’s shooting style, family portraits (formals) and creative shots with the bridal party and bride & groom are something he enjoys doing at each wedding. While a photo-journalistic approach is used for much of the day, Matt’s clients can expect to see a wide variety of images and styles on their wedding day.
